Women’s golf


The Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association launched its 2013 golf season with a luncheon and business meeting in the clubhouse dining room after the opening day scramble was canceled due to rain.

Officers for the season are: Dianna Adams and Marilyn Kenny, co-chairpersons; Theresa Metcalf, secretary; and Carol Oklok, treasurer.

Adams presided for the meeting and welcomed the women to the new golf season. Golf professional John Denholm was a guest, announcing that he will be holding golf clinics for the women on various aspects of the game on Tuesday mornings. Denholm also will handle the Friday night couples’ golf events which will consist of nine holes of play followed by dinner. The first one is scheduled for May 10.

The President’s Cup competition is scheduled for the last two Wednesdays in May and the first two Wednesdays in June. The best three out of four net scores will determine the winner of this highly-regarded tournament.

Officers’ reports were given by Metcalf and Oklok. Adams announced that the East Central Tournament will be held at Moundbuilders Country Club on Aug. 1-2 and 2 with herself and Kenny in charge. Renee Morelli reported that the annual Rally for a Cure will be held on July 17 with herself and Natalie Straus as co-chairmen.

The women golfers will once again be assisting with the closest to the pin competition for the Pabian Tournament and the Firecracker Tournament held by the men. Shannon Irvin and DeeDee Scugoza will work at the Pabian and Morelli, Metcalf and Donna Hill at the Firecracker.

Kenny and Adams were in charge of arrangements for the opening day luncheon. Primroses in vases were used as centerpieces, and cupcakes were served following lunch. Centerpiece winners were Adams, Criss, Tegano, Mary Ann Chorpenning, Oklok and Morelli.

A two best ball event is scheduled for May 1. Eighteen-hole golfers are asked to report to the pro shop by 9:30 a.m. for 10 a.m. tee time, and nine-hole golfers will report at 10 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. tee time. Committee members for May are Morelli, Peterson and Tegano.


Blackmoor Ladies Golf League played April 22. The winner of the game was Cheryl Black, who also took closest to pin on hole No. 3.

Lucy Karran had a chip in on hole no. 9. Renee Morelli and Signa Findlay tied for low putts.

Blackmoor Ladies play on Mondays at 5 p.m.


The Cadiz Women’s Golf Association held opening day April 24 with rain canceling play, but members gathered for the social hour and dinner at the club, followed by a meeting.

Officers for 2013 will be: chairperson, Marlene Holloway; co-chair, Nep Rowland; secretary, Peg Buchanan; assistant secretary, Ginny Ferrell; treasurer, JoAnn Watson. Holloway announced the following committee chairmen: Rules and Handicap: Billy Stanwick and Millie Romshak; Decorations: Nancy Beckert and Ann Milleson; East Central Tournament: Cathy Shepherd; Locker Room: Betty Thompson; Nominating: Dolores Ginier, Ann Milleson and Nancy Beckert; Publicity: Peg Buchanan and Ann Milleson; and Ringer Board: Ila Walrath.

The club will sponsor a mini invitational on June 19.

Three live flower baskets were given as door prizes to Dolores Ginier, Cathy Shepherd and Cindy Shepherd.
