City Council to

meet with auditors

STEUBENVILLE – The state auditor’s office conducting a performance audit of the city’s water and wastewater fund has requested a private meeting tonight with City Council members and administration officials.

The closed-door meeting will be held in the City Hall Pugliese Conference room at 6:45 p.m.

Council agreed in February to hire the state auditor’s office for $70,000 to conduct the performance audit. The audit is expected to last eight to nine months.

Following the private meeting, council will meet at 7:30 p.m. for a sunshine meeting.

Dillonvale hydrants

to be flushed

DILLONVALE – Dillonvale Water Department crews will flush fire hydrants Monday and May 13-14 throughout the village.

Residents may experience discolored water, so they are asked to check before washing clothes.

Old Fort Steuben

Project dinner set

WINTERSVILLE – The annual Old Fort Steuben Project Inc. meeting and dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Florian Hall located on Luray Drive.

David Javersak will give the presentation “A Place Through Time: Steubenville, Past and Present – Different Ways to Look at Our History.”

A Weirton native, Javersak is a West Liberty University dean and professor emeritus. He has written “History of Weirton, West Virginia,” “West Liberty: From Academy to University,” “The Shepherds and Their Mansion” and “The Stifels.”

Javersak has contributed articles to magazines and the West Virginia Encyclopedia. He has been a Weirton Historical Commission and the West Virginia Independence Hall Foundation member and was West Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War commissioner.

The event includes a silent auction.

Chester investigates

one-vehicle accident

CHESTER – Chester Police are investigating a one-vehicle accident that took out a utility pole in front of Arner Funeral Home on Sunday.

Police Chief Ken Thorn said the accident resulted in minor injuries for the male driver, who was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital. He did not have the name of the driver or passenger, who was uninjured.

Crews from Mon Power were on the scene until early Monday morning replacing the pole, which was clipped in two.

Thorn said the driver had just come off the U.S. Route 30 ramp at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his pickup truck and hit the pole.

Recycling containers to be collected

STEUBENVILLE – The JB Green Team on Friday will collect containers used by residents of the Alexander Manor, Westwood and Buena Vista areas as part of its test curbside recycling program.

Residents of those areas may leave recyclable materials in the cans also.

Commission to meet

STEUBENVILLE – The regular monthly meeting of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be held at 12:30 p.m. May 14 at Suite 310, 500 Market St.
